Much like with running, and exercise, I find a special kind of silence when I’m writing. As much as I crave to move my body, I crave moving words around too. I find myself in that silence.
Much like I’m not a fitness guru, I’m not a total writing goddess yet either. When the world crumbles into chaos, spinning out of control, I find my words crumble away too. Suffice it to say there was a lot of crumbling in 2020.
That said, I do have goals and hopes for 2021. Here they are.
Send Queries
Sending out a query is like shooting a flare out of the stratosphere. It is an act of hope and a cry for help all at the same time. It is a wonderful moment. I should, and plan to, do it more often. I aim to do it more in 2021.
Finish Editing A Novel
Or two or three. I find this part of the process the trickiest. In an infinite universe there are infinite possibilities. It can be hard determining exactly which universe your book lives in.
Still, there’s a joy in knowing something is done and so I’m aiming for that certainty.
Have Fun
It’s easy to lose the fun in-between all the grammar checks, plot wrangling, and second guessing. And yet, the fun is why drives me along. The sheer joy of reading, of falling into an alternate universe on the page, is what drove me here in the first place. Above all, I’m trying to keep enjoying writing in 2021.
What are your writing goals for 2021?
